(ENDE574) Hyperdriver - Tech Support

The Tech Support album marked a turning point in Hyperdriver history in that the Tech Support track was the first of what were to be many longer, multi-parters. Although it is presented here split into 4, on the original CD it was one continuous track. Once the CD was sold out it was put on the download site MP3.COM where due to restrictions on file size and track length, it had to be cut into sections. This is the version presented here. It then re-emerged on CD (OK technically CDr) on the MP3.COM D.A.M.(Digital Automatic Music) program. It was the first D.A.M. CD to be censored for bad language. They did a whole news piece on their front page about it as a warning to artists and to appease the pro censorship brigade. Since the originals with said “bad language” were still available to buy and download elsewhere on the site they did a great job of marketing the album.

Another standout track for me is Axeman Cometh which was a staple of my live sets for many, many years.

This album has a heavily distorted sound which is a product of a recording technique I was using at the time where I would overdrive the mixer. Sorry, that should read OVERDRIVE. I blew up a lot of mixers.

I have lost track of the early stuff as any documentation or notes are long gone, but these tracks were recorded over the period between 1997 and 2001, so a few pre-date Hyperdriver. I know for sure that ‘kin is old as I was messing around with speech synthesis at the time so the voice recording might even go back as far as 1995.

When MP3.COM was closed in 2003 Tech Support, along with The Dark Days, became unavailable. Until now.
