(ENDE422) The Antithesist - Live at Noise Abuse Party Cannington
Antithesis: (noun) a person or thing that is the direct opposite of someone or something else.
A new antifascist death industrial/power electronics/noise project from West Australian Experimental/Electronic Musician - Boris Otterdam. One to continue the themes of noise resistance and rejection of musical formula and coherence only hinted at in his long running breakcore/hardcore/drum n bass project - Noistruct (soon to be retired).
Heavy drum machine beats, over distorted vocals, unusual samples, random noise bursts, screeching static and droning feedback but also long, slow, dubby sonic explorations, warped electronic abstractions and hardcore punk synthesized and computerised.
The Antithesist uses mostly hardware and recordings are made unplanned and spontaneously and sporadically. Although this may not always be a hard rule. Recordings can twist and turn in all manner of directions and rarely have any cohesion or organisation. Lyrics veer from overtly political to the personally abstract. Always buried under overdistorted vocals and usually indecipherable to the average listener.
Structure and formula are the enemy.
The Antithesist takes inspiration from acts like (early) Swans, Amebix, Man Is The Bastard, Thug, Primitive Calculators, (early) My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Coil, Whitehouse, Contact Low, The Haters, Thug, Deutsch Nepal, The Future, Prison Rape Scenes, (early) Final, (early) Scorn, Godflesh, Hose, Bongwater, Butthole Surfers, Gomst, Suicide, Greymachine, Black Lung, Rupture, Jesus Lizard and Q24 as well as Digital Hardcore and Fuckstep acts such as Shizuo and Carl Crack.
There's also an influence of the heavier end of hip hop and industrial influenced hip hop such as Public Enemy, Run DMC, (early) Gravediggaz, Sensational, Fever, Rubberoom, Techno Animal, (early) Meat Beat Manifesto and Consolidated.
