(ENDE294) Michael T Roper - Rich Cunt

Michael T Roper is one of the most diverse and eclectic breakcore producers in Australia. His erratic style of production sees the subversive, the comical, the mundane, the morose and the confusing blurred together in the same album and sometimes blurred together in the same track.

A fiercely independent and self reliant producer. He first wandered into the Melbourne Breakcore Scene seemingly off the street sometime in 2007 or 2008. No one really knows.

He quickly impressed everyone in it though with his razorsharp IDM style breakslicing, drill n bass, breakcore, hardcore and bizarre beat driven audio collages.

He started releasing music on labels like Night Terror Recordings and Chase Records as well as popping up on compilations around the web, before starting his own label MRR and self releasing vinyl singles and albums.

In 2013 while hanging out with Noistruct one day. the two of them came across a bunch of 90s sample CDs in an Op Shop. These samples became the basis of his side projects Beatrice Pollard and Carmel Harris Slurrycunt.

Carmel Harris Slurrycunt made it's debut on ENDE Records right back at the beginning with the first 5 releases on it's launch day on July 31st 2014.

"Rich Cunt" is a bizarre and unsettling techno album with moments of chillout techno, noise, antimusic, breakbeat, hardcore, danceable weirdness and Roper's trademark vocal sample distortion which turns simple film and TV samples into something comical or just weirdly unsettling. But don't let the weirdness fool you. there's some truly brilliant synth work on here.

Tracks are typically short and take aim at the Melbourne Lockdown of 2020, general public apathy, Anti-Vaxxer idiocy and subliminal and subversive self parody and criticism as well as anything amusing or interesting that catches his attention.
The direction of the album was dictated by the months in isolation Roper experienced in his unit in Inner city Melbourne during the 2020 lockdown. Working on the album at different times of day and night, in between observing the city and it's reactions to the changes and social withdrawals around him.

Michael T Roper quit the Melbourne Breakcore Scene almost a decade ago but he's happier being alone and working on tracks anyway. He has always been first and foremost a studio animal.
After a chance reconnecting with him online lately with Noistruct after neither having spoken for over 6 years. He showed him the more than 10 albums he's self released on his Bandcamp as well as new projects and gave ENDE this album to release with the only instructions 'put the tracks in alphabetical order"
