(ENDE283) Psykoxxx - Come and Hear

Psykoxxx is one of the alter egos of French breakcore producer Batard Tronique who used to run the web label Paris Zombie Netlabel which folded in April 2021.

Psykoxxx has released on ENDE before but this album in particular is the one that caught our attention back in 2014 when it was originally released on Coma Recordz.

"Come and Hear" brings the bottom end breakbeat destruction of Batard Tronique's style and adapts it into a slick, almost polished commercial sounding take on Hip Hop, Crunk, Grime and what would now be considered Trap.

The intro to "666 Words In 100 Bars (With Nate Monoxide)" is so slick you can easily hear it fitting on any hot 30 type radio show. Until the hyper rapping grime freestyle over breakbeats drops in.

"Gwada" is another one that brings some distortion and breakbeats into mid 2000s crunk and grime. This is definitely 2000s dancefloor friendly shit. Although with a subversive breakcore flavour over it. Almost like it was made to sneak into the superclubs.

the familiar smash of Batard's breakcore creeps back in though. Especially on tracks like "Klasikleri" and the remix of Extraction. There's also a few stabs of speedcore and extratone but utilised for aesthetic rather than the main template of the track formula.

it's somewhere between MIA and Dizzy Rascal partying with Kinfehandchop and Loffciamcore.

Psykoxxx/Batard Tronique and his other pseudonyms were always adventurous and fearless in their experimentation. but for our money. "Come and Hear" was his finest moment.

Long slow and deep. Psykoxxx is paying tribute to this sound yet still bringing something darker to it.

This is summer patio and lowrider laps of the block anthems for the free tekno party crowd.
