(ENDE117) Etdevagina - Vehemens

Etdevagina is a breakcore producer from Brazil. His name came as a joke about a Brazilian urban legend "ET de Varginha".

We recently discovered his music on Soundcloud and blown away by his mix of metal drum patterns and erratic bursts of darkstep. We asked him to do a release for us and maybe send us a few words.

He sent us this "Vehemens" his debut album.

and these words...

"Death metalized drums and some slices of Gregorian chants together. The release name "Vehemens" is a latin word for "intense, powerful"

Intense and powerful it certainly is. As well as the classical samples and Gregorian chants. There's some brilliant distorted old school breaks and frenetic harpsichord melodies. "Khepri" is as frantic as it is playful. "Blast Concerto" is a mashup of death metal drum patterns and MIDI pads. Some tracks like "Domini" have more of the death metal influence than the breakcore influence.

Etdevagina shows influences of not just modern hypercut new school breakcore but also the suspense and restraint that gives old school breakcore that impact. As well as beatslicing and looping. Etdevagina also administers moments of overdistortion and chewing the beats into unrecognisable momentary blurs - to give that shock of making you wonder if he even has any control over where this is all going. I certainly hope not ;)
