about

(ENDE89) Mandark - Comorbidity

It's been said that your environment or surroundings can have a substantial impact on someone's art. In late 2012, this theory was put into practice with ambient soundscape, abstract noise and found sound recordings that reflected some of the most chaotic, drug and alcohol fuelled, dilapidated and unstable surroundings I'd ever been in. "Ondine's Curse" and the 27 minute long "Syncope" were both produced at "299" a half empty punk sharehouse in Dianella in Perth in September and October 2012.

At the time of the production. They were recorded in a room that was part bedroom, part studio and part storage shed. With the most worn out and run down item stored - being myself. The house once containing around 8 or 9 people was down to 2 and the smell of the former housemates' refuse and the overall stillness in a such a large and slowly rotting home, contributed to long, quiet hungover evenings that these were recorded in. "Ondine's Curse" was recorded during a period of severe depression and isolation.

In contrast "Sprawl Out From The Sea" was recorded in a friend's luxury high rise flat in Surry Hills in Sydney. A more relaxed and positive environment which allowed a view of the skyline from 20 odd stories up as it was recorded.

"3 days in a Bakery" was recorded in a sleep deprived state after spending 3 days awake in a Bakery in Melbourne's Northern suburbs in early December 2012. As a result I hated the recording for at least a month until I went back and realised paranoia was responsible for most of the criticism.

This album was released originally on the Mandark bandcamp page and has now been revisited and re-released with one track change around.
