about

(ENDE70) Deadcode - Back From The...

Deadcode was a founding member of Perth Western Australia's breakcore/experimental label 8-Bit Recordings and one of the pioneers of Perth's early 2000s first breakcore scene.

As a member of 8-Bit Recordings he released only two releases. The debut CD "Face Invader" in 2002 and the digital EP "The Dirty Truth" in 2014 before the label finished.

As with many of the original breakcore producers of the late 90s/early 2000s he had a unique take on the style. Which saw a heavy breakbeat/jungle combination with old school industrial music and pre-chiptune in his influences.

In the beginning, it was a very raw electronic abuse with simple chipmelodies and low bitgrade distorted breaks and digital noises. Somewhat akin to the sound of a computer crashing through a PA while midway through a track production. Inspired by the dark early breakcore pioneers like Bloody Fist, Digital Hardcore Recordings, Zhark International and Cross Fade Entertainment. Deadcode's sound began as a homage to 1980s technophobia, classic video games and Cold War conspiracy both in construction and samples in theme.
But it eventually developed into leaner, sometimes faster more abrasive digital sound destroyed breakcore and noisier video game elements before developing again finally into a more free flowing organic drum n bass/jungle style. A progression which saw him retaining a signature sound.

A year since his last release. Deadcode has given as his first release for ENDE. A collection of the best remaining tracks from that period of 1999-2007 of his most prolific production period - that weren't already collected on the previous two releases. All with the exception of "Burnout" are previously unreleased.

Fans of the more experimental side of breakcore from it's classic era will enjoy these tracks. It's not what is usually expected of the style these days and thank Cthulhu for that. The dirty truth is no one in 15 years came up with a sound even close to this. If you do prefer the chip side of this material to the breaks side. You should check out his new project "Strayce".
