about

(ENDE54) Hyperdriver - Prime Lard

UK producer Hyperdriver is no stranger to the distorted beat and noisy scrape.
A veteran of sonic destruction, he's been producing electronic cacophany for almost 20 years. With around 26 previous releases on D-Trash Records, Invasion Wreck Chords and his own label Beergut Recordings to name a few.

This, his first album for ENDE is more of the same that we've come to expect with no major change in flavour or direction bringing some old school, overdistorted beat destruction and glitching to the label.

Like losing your virginity in a train station public toilet at rush hour. "Prime Lard" is a confusing, messy, uncomfortable and nerve inducing abrasive experience that like the fat congealing product it's inspired by - will not be favourable to those used to a more easy to digest and clean palatable dancefloor friendly sound out of breakcore.

Scratching his beard, belting his equipment and sweating a mix of football testosterone and Young's Lager profusely. Hyperdriver's alchemic abuse of sound is something that is akin to a mad scientist beating the pulp of it's creation into shape - or out of it. Glitching and pummeling kicks and snares in no discernible direction, thashed into submission. Scattering safe sound craving hipster snares followers and petrified neighbours alike in all directions.

I'll let the man himself put it in his own words actually:

DJ AND DANCEFLOOR UNFRIENDLY

Don't ask what album number this is. I've lost count and am a terrible collector of my own stuff (doesn't help that my ex threw a LOT of stuff away either)

Hyperdriver started after I wrote a track named Hyperdriver. I was previously using a different project name for each album. I liked the name and decided to put all my noisy "electronic" projects under the Hyperdriver name. This was September 1998. (The Hyperdriver track is on the Hyperdriver Bandcamp page)

Interview quotes
"If you take yourself too seriously you turn into Elton John"
"I love watching people 'doing the spastic'. What's the point of extreme music if it's easy to dance to?"
"if you were going to give someone new to the scene a piece of advice, what would it be?" "Don't catch your foreskin in your zip"

My favourite reaction by an artist I remixed
"Fuck me, what's that"
