about

(ENDE185) Killjoy - Free Of Pain

Blunt force overdistorted, filter mulched funk breaks, trebled up, pitch fucked hip hop rhymes, thick and soupy dark pad basslines, static screeches of electronic noise and subversive commercial and media cuts. Welcome to the world of Killjoy.

Killjoy is an Australian breakcore producer hailing from the misty forests of The Blue Mountains New South Wales. Grown from the same feral rave colonies as Passenger OF Shit, Dysphemic and Infekta. He became known to the Australian scene through blistering warehouse party sets in Sydney and Melbourne and a smatter of compilation releases in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Influenced by 90s gangster hip hop, jungle, Britney Spears and Newcastle hardcore. Killjoy's brilliance is in the speed and intensity of his breaks retaining the low end thud of the horrorcore gangsta hip hop drums that influenced him. Most producers go for speed over heaviness but Killjoy retains both while dropping different tempoed break fills and gangsta vocal cuts.

After a split release on a short lived bedroom label and live appearances alongside major international electronic heavyweights such as Enduser, Scorn and Converter. Killjoy caught the attention of the highly respected and influential French breakcore label "Peace Off Records" and was offered a spot on the compilation "The Kamikaze Club 05"

After touring Europe and Japan with Xian and Suicidal Rap Orgy in 2007 (which included a spot at Breakcore Gives Me Wood and Infect in Lyon ), He started Gang Sign Records with long time friend "Bint" in 2009 and a short tour of Europe followed.

Killjoy has since toured Japan again in 2011 and Europe again in 2013 (again playing Breakcore Gives Me Wood) . Killjoy's sound has had some change since the days of these brutal funk break beatings of the early 2000s. But ENDE Records was keen to rescue these early tracks from inactive websites and forgotten labels.

So this is a collection of pretty close to every track he released during those formative years. Collected in one place and presented in a way to show how Killjoy's short gangster rise from the Mountain ghettos came to be. Many of these tracks were once staple live favourites and some have not been heard of since the days of forum wars and CDR abuse.
