about

(ENDE172) Stink Pickle Project - The Very Least Of...Vol. 1

Stink Pickle Project is the IDM/breakcore/experimental electronic project of American producer Scott Dryman. Also responsible for previous ENDE Records contributor "Crippling Self Doubt"

"The Very Least Of...Vol. 1" is a collection of his least entertaining and worthwhile tracks. Wanting to do something a little different. He decided not to show people his best work and the best of what he can do. But only the stuff that is unreleasable, embarrassing, nauseating, peurile and self indulgent.

I said to him "Don't you think it would make more sense to show people your best tracks?" and he replied "No if they actually enjoy the worst of them then the best ones will seem even better than they actually are"

can't argue with that logic.

Where CSD is the soundtrack to the inevitably of failure. SPP is that failure set to a beat you can dance to.

Not necessarily dance like get down, get into it and enjoy yourself. More like sway and swagger around a dancefloor like a drunken Grandad with his pants open at a Merle Haggard concert. Or dance because you're being forced to out of fear of social ostracization for being at a dance party but actively not taking part.

Offtime experimental beats and morbidly abused samples, distorted amens, random electronic bleeps and atonal excuses for basslines. Structure and coherence being thrown even further out of the window than usual with some results sounding like a jungle track thrown into a glasscrusher and some sounding so unconventional and unappealing that they barely classify as noise.

But despite all this negative spin Scott has put on his music. There are some brilliant breakcore abstractions and much of it is strangely appealing. Like an abrasion you didn't bother to band-aid just so you could leave it a few days to squeeze it and watch the pus and grangene for your own amusement. The tracks are all assembled in an alphabetical order based on title which makes it blend together in a bizarre but sensible way.

With an oddball collection of noises, samples of horns, female singers, squeaks, jungle breaks, impotent bass drops and randomly scattered synths. It's like breakcore roadkill. Rather than see it squirming on the side of the road and pull over to put it out of it's misery. You just kind of stand there and watch it writhe, suffer, bleed and moan to satisfy your own sadistic curiosities.
