(ENDE109) Arachnoid - Dark World

Arachnoid is a breakcore, "cyber rave" and digital punk producer from somewhere but where is a mystery. Judging by his atonal melodies and looped noise scrapes could be fuckin Pluto for all I know.

Regardless. He emerged online somewhere in 2015 and started posting his tracks of abstract and offtime breakcore.

This, his second album and second in the last month in fact (He just released his first "Human Virus" on Paris Zombie Netlabel literally a month ago today). Is a collection of tracks comprising repetitive and abrasive noises, atonal chip melodies, looped techno stabs and breakbeats smashed together sometimes with no regard for assimilation of each other. It's not that they don't fit together it's that they have been matched offtime which is something few do anymore. He does make it work.

It's refreshing. It sounds fun to make and it's fun to listen to. There doesn't appear to be a rhyme or reason behind Arachnoid's style. He smashes atonal melodies with half formed synth patterns sometimes sounding like a live crossfade that didn't catch the timing.

It's disjointed and at times jarring (opening track "A Strange Day" is 5 and a half minutes of looped, overamplified synth stabs) Offtime beats and tempo shifts that are sometimes too quick to comprehend. Some would say that's annoying. But that's because it has no regard for form or function. Why should it? I think it's great.
Definitely similar to some of the weirder and more experimental breakcore producers of the early 2000s. Arachnoid has created something akin to a breakcore version of The Residents or Art Of Noise.
