about

(ENDE103) Maladroit - Planning For The Future Of Coburg

Maladroit is one of the most successful and recognised producers of the Australian breakcore/hardcore scene. Beginning in the late 90s after being inspired by the likes of Bloody Fist and Digital Hardcore Recordings. A native of Epping Sydney. He released his first album "Death To False Metal" through Sydney hardcore label, Epping born "Powerviolence" which later changed it's name to Com-Baton Records.

He became an active member of Sydney's System Corrupt crew and released his second album "Plastic Injected Funk" and a 12" vinyl "Shallow End Of The Theme Pool" through them, which eventually caught the attention of the then growing second wave of worldwide breakcore scenes.

After a few years as a regular fixture in the Sydney scene. He relocated to Melbourne in 2005, playing shows with crews like Illegal Frequencies and Black Lotus, releasing a handful of self-released CDRs and vinyl splits with the likes of Epsilon and Capslock as well as embarking on international tours which included slots at festivals like Breakcore Gives Me Wood.

Maladroit's unique style comes from a plunderphonic mix of beatmatching jungle breaks with music from every style and genre that exists. Once referred to by one Melbourne promoter as "the breakcore Jive Bunny". Nothing is ever off limits and unlike many of the popmashers of the mid-2000s. He never stuck to predictable popular songs of the day. Shying away from excessive effects and VSTS which creates a type of bluntforce juggernaut of neatly sliced breaks and gabber kicks with thick bass drops and basslines. Driving this musical stew along is often subversively sampled references to everything from the occult and conspiracy theories to a variety of movies, TV shows, youtube videos and stand up comedy.

"Planning For The Future Of Coburg" is a legacy not just to Maladroit's music but his prolific output (It was rumoured than in the early to mid 2000s he would get a few tracks completed per day). A compilation of unreleased or rare Maladroit tracks. Some gathered from various personal CDR handouts from his archives and some have never seen the light of day (this isn't even a fragment of tracks that haven't either). A great way to introduce yourself to his music if you have never heard him and If that's the case this will make a great starting point - with 15 releases under his belt there's plenty more out there.
